The Law of Attraction…Fact or Fiction?

Published by Other Authors under Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction. Is it indeed an undisputed fact, or just wishful thinking? A story of my introduction to the concept may help you decide for yourself . . .

Five years ago, I moved to the outskirts of town to get away from all the hustle and bustle of city life. I was tired of traffic, and noise, and annoying neighbors and just wanted to get a place where I could stretch out and decompress at the end of a long day.

Boy did that plan backfire. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for what I have but I’m certainly no closer to being able to relax than I was before. I’ve got more grass to cut, no maintenance man to fix leaking faucets and I’ve managed to add a dozen more traffic lights to my commute in the morning and every afternoon than I otherwise had before I moved.

Traffic lights. I absolutely hate them. I catch every single red light no matter what the time of day, no matter the volume of traffic or my observation of the posted speed limits: It just does not seem to matter.

I catch every one, and that is not an exaggeration. I also do not just randomly catch the light either, it’s always just as it’s turning red, thus ensuring the absolute maximum wait time possible.

I was at one of these lights a couple of years back, silently cursing the powers that be and I remember asking myself how was it even possible that I caught every single light every single time I steped into my automobile?

The thought occurred to me that perhaps the devil was tempting me, trying to make me stressed and angry and down right insane. How else to explain this freak of nature? You could not simply chalk it up to sheer luck or coincidence, the odds were just to astronomical to even consider it. There had to be an outside force acting upon me and these infuriating lights.

I remember getting into work that morning and opening up an email from a very dear fiend of mine with an urgent request to open the attachment she had sent along on this new theory sweeping the nation. It was a review of the movie The Secret and an encapsulated discussion on the basic theory of the Law of Attraction.

The rest is history I suppose. I saw the movie, read everything I could get my hands on about this “new” idea, and even attended more than half a dozen seminars on the subject, all because of three little words mentioned in that first email.

Like attracts Like.

You see, the power of this idea did not manifest itself in some silly little affirmation idea or in the form of a check out of the blue that I had convinced myself I was already in possession of. No, it came in quite the opposite way actually. Sitting at stop light after stoplight silently cursing the universe and the powers that be as to why they felt the need to bestow this misery upon my tortured soul day in and day out.

It happened because basically, I commanded it to. Simply asking myself why I hit every red light attracted and manifested that thought into the reality of actually hitting everyone.

The universe was even compelled to go so far as moving me further from my job to allow me to receive even more of what my mind was calling out for.

The universe has no idea that these emotions are good or bad, nor does it care. It simply provides you what you ask it for and the way each and everyone of us ask for things is through our daily thoughts and emotions. Combine the two and you are guaranteed to receive it.

Eventually, through controlled and deliberate thinking, I was able to undo a great deal of the damage done and hit fewer and fewer red lights. The ones I still hit, and am okay with now that I know it’s nothing personal and I’m just probably stuck behind someone with my old thought patterns, I take these opportunities to focus on something that I want to happen in my life and really focus my emotions and intent on acquiring it.

Truth be told, I actually look forward to the red lights now for this very reason and the results have been phenomenal, not to mention what the reduced stress level has done for my overall health and happiness.

It does no harm trying this principle and it could change your life. I don’t know why anyone would resist the idea and possibly miss out on the chance to change their entire world for the better.

Manifesting Your Heart’s Desires

We are each manifesting all the time. Everything we have in our lives was created by us. The question is how have we been creating? Has it been from a place of conscious intention or out of reaction? From a state of ease and trust or resistance and fear? Have we been creating for ourselves or letting others create for us? The more we are aware of what we want and what it will do for us, the more likely we are to manifest this into our life. Envisioning our goals and dreams ignites our enthusiasm and creates a mock up for what we want. Once the momentum has started it is important to let go and let the process unfold. If we focus on every single detail or try to control every step, we limit ourselves to other possibilities; ones much bigger and better than we ever could imagine. Of course this takes trust, and for those of us born without a trust gene we need to develop one if we want to manifest easily. As we move toward our goals, taking action with anything other than ease is bound to slow down the process and cause frustration. Ease is a state of being. It is relaxed, productive movement, opposite to effort, struggle and resistance. When our body tenses up and we find ourselves “trying to make” things happen, that is a strong clue that we have moved out of ease. Simply breathing, relaxing and connecting to our inner trust can bring us back to a centered place where things happen effortlessly. Explore these questions to gain insights into your manifesting power: • Reflect over your adult life and notice all of your manifestations. The relationships, jobs, health, finances and so on. Do you see any patterns in terms of how you created or attracted these into your life? • For all of the wonderful things you’ve had in your life, what were the key elements to creating this for yourself (i.e. did you consciously want this, were you in a state of trust or surrender etc.) • For anything not so wonderful in your life, what were the key elements operating for you at these times (i.e. were you in resistance, fear, giving up your power or perhaps these were stepping stones to greater things or opportunities for growth and learning). Try these inspiring ideas to manifest your heart’s desires: • Play with creating and manifesting consciously by becoming aware of what you really want in your life. What would make your heart sing, your passion flare or you mind be at peace? Spend 5 minutes each day this week, envisioning it, using all of your senses to imagine it taking place. • Become aware of when you are taking action in your life from a place of effort and practice shifting into ease. Notice if this increases your productivity, joy and ability to manifest what you want. • Increase your ability to have what you want by letting go of any limiting messages or beliefs that say you can’t have the things you want. Rise above the notion of deserving and undeserving to a place of high havingness where all possibilities exist.

The Power Of Asking

Some of us may believe that life events occur randomly and that we have limited or no control over that which occurs in our lives. Nothing could be further from the truth! It is easy for us to be led into believing this illusion of non control over our lives. These feelings are further reinforced when we experience those events that we wished to avoid in the first place.

The main problem stems not from what we think but how we think. Have you ever heard the saying “Be careful what you ask for since you might get it”? This is absolutely true. We do get what we ask for - good or bad. Its not so much what we ask for but how we ask for it. For example, if you don’t want something in your life you usually you go through some sort of mental conversation as to the reasons and justification as to why you don’t want what you don’t want. So naturally your thoughts now become focused on excluding that which you don’t want in your live rather than including what you do want.

Be Careful What You Ask For

This presents a problem since the universal Law of Attraction states that we draw toward us and manifest into reality that which we focus our thoughts on most. The more thought you put toward something the more it expands. Those thoughts, good or bad, are pulling or attracting you towards the particular reality you don’t want. By attempting to exclude that which you don’t want you inadvertently draw it into your reality.

What this implies is that we should be focusing on those thoughts that move or attract us closer to that which we truly want or desire. In other words, focus on what you do want not what you don’t want. How then can we know that we are aligning ourselves with correct thoughts? The answer to this is actually quite simple. Any thought that feels good and empowers you will bring you more in line with the vibrational frequency of that which you want and moves you closer to it. Good thoughts will enhance your well begin. Negative thoughts will pull you away from your source energy and make you feel miserable or irritable. You are now out of alignment with your true wants and desires.

If your current thoughts cause feelings of fear, anger, uneasiness or other negative feelings then that should be your warning to change your thoughts. Negative thoughts are causing you to virbrate at a different frequency from that which you truly want and manifesting a reality you don’t want. When this happens immediately change your thoughts to that which empowers you or give you a sense of well being. Let your feelings be your guide in terms of which thoughts are positive or negative, empowering or not and give you a sense of well being.

Living in a state of well being is a normal state of existence. Living in a state of fear, anger or negativity is not. Which state of being you wish to live in is your choice since ultimately your reality ends up being the physical manifestation of your thoughts.

To your continued prosperity…
