The Healing Power Of Forgiveness

We are blessed to live in a time when more and more options for wellness are available to us. Along with what we call “conventional medicine”, we have alternatives such as chiropractics, acupuncture, reiki, yoga and homeopathic options. More and more MDs are utilizing combinations of both conventional and alternative medicine, making it easier to not only get well, but stay well. THIS is a beautiful thing!

Recently, having had the challenge of a severe physical malady to contend with, and being a person who believes (and practices) alternative medicine, I had the frightening realization that this time I might have to consult with an MD as nothing else was working. I shall spare you the details of the malady as I feel it has little (or no) bearing on the end result. In any event, after exhausting all alternative options (and pretty much my bank account) I decided it was time for me to open my mind and consider going to a doctor to see what they had to say about it. The moment I was given their diagnosis, I knew it was incorrect and was left feeling disappointed, irritated and running low on hope. What to do now?

After several conversations with people close to me, there were a few things that kept coming up over and over. One was that whatever it was that was causing the pain in my body was a direct result of an imbalance, not only in my physical being, but also in my spirit. In other words, the physical manifestations were a RESULT of what was going on at a much deeper level. Of course, I knew instinctively that these observations were correct. I’ve always believed that “dis-ease” is just that: a body NOT at ease with one’s spirit. The question was WHAT was my imbalance? What had I ignored that had resulted in such an intense physical manifestation?

The next thing that was presented was the idea of FORGIVENESS. Over and over these people who know me, love me and have been in my “tribe” for a long, long time kept saying things like, “You must forgive. You must forgive all those who may have hurt you in the past and, most importantly, you MUST forgive your SELF.” Another truth that resonated with me so fully that there was no way I could ignore it any. Again, another question arose: What am I NOT forgiving in myself? How is it that this is so deeply rooted that I am unable to see it?

Serenity Through Forgiveness

So began my quest. I was determined to investigate this thing called forgiveness and find what it was I was either refusing or unable to see. I was absolutely certain that if I could identify this thing I would be on a path to wellness and get my life back. Easy to say. Not so much “do”. The journey I began at that point was to be filled with many moments of confusion, anger, despair and complete surrender. There were days when I couldn’t even get out of bed, the pain was so intense. I would lie there in a fetal position, aching and sobbing and praying for mercy. I even had a few moments when I really thought I was going to die from the pain (or wished that I would). For someone with my spirit, this was as shocking as it was terrifying. But somehow, with the loving help of my tribe, I managed to get through those moments and live to see another day. Some days were certainly better than others, but the overall experience was one of excruciating pain and paralyzing fear that I wouldn’t make it through.

Slowly, with fierce determination, I began to practice quiet meditations, asking for guidance to see what I was not seeing and to be shown the way to forgive myself. I honestly didn’t know HOW to forgive myself, as I didn’t know what TO forgive. I couldn’t seem to identify it. I gathered up all my journals and read them to see if perhaps there might be some clues. I looked at photos, trying to locate whatever it was that I was holding myself hostage over. I did a LOT of praying!

And then, without really realizing what was happening, I came to the conclusion that “identifying” this thing was not the issue. It didn’t matter at all WHAT I was forgiving myself for, all that mattered was that I did. You know that expression “forgive and forget”? Well, apparently I’d done it in reverse. I’d forgotten whatever it was but had failed to forgive. So I began a little exercise that turned out to be quite a remarkable tool. I would stand in front of a mirror every day, and look into the eyes of the person staring back. I would say over and over, “I love you. I forgive you. I’m so sorry I hurt you.” And even though, when I began doing this the words were hollow and without emotion, I began to notice that after a very short time they were actually touching me. I would do this exercise for 5 minutes and by the time I finished, I’d have tears in my eyes and could actually FEEL what I was saying to my Self. It was kind of weird. But it worked!

I offer this very personal experience to you now because it completely transformed my life. I am no longer the angry, defensive person I once was. I am much more kind, patient and tolerant of myself and of other people. I have all but eliminated the criticism that was once so prevalent in my life. I have come to terms with who I am and have actually fallen in love with this person. It’s a strange place to be, considering where I was before all this happened. But I am utterly grateful for having had the experience. When people tell you that it took nearly dying to learn how to live, they’re tellling you the truth. Even though my “condition” was not life-threatening in the literal sense, it WAS life transforming. The butterfly has emerged. Forgiveness was the key. And it is my greatest hope that you will find truth in my story and use it to forgive yourself every single day. Do it NOW before YOUR body responds to the emotional toxins. Living in forgiveness is a miracle elixir. Take it while you can!

Law of Attraction Tools Part 1

Published by Other Authors under Law of Attraction

Reading and studying the Law of Attraction is uncovering many different tools and techniques that various practitioners and teachers reveal in their works. Some of these tools were mentioned in the movie The Secret. Others were not. Since each tool has pertinent information and resources around each one, an article series has been created to keep you abreast of new tools and techniques that I come across in my research. There’s always so much to learn and find out, so this series is being created for those who need a little more information and direction before they haul off into a frenzy of buying one tool after the next. I encourage you to try and incorporate in your life what you resonate with the most. Most of the tools are free and pretty simple to implement and should be practiced the best way you know how. Start where you are.

The first tool I’m going to focus on in this article series is Visualization. This seems like an obvious one for most people, but it goes a little bit deeper then just being able to see a dream in your head. We can see a vision in our head, and unless it feels real, what we see isn’t going to manifest according to what we want to see physically. Why is this so? It’s because the Law of Attraction responds to feeling. How emotionally charged are you around your visualizations? Your perception is what’s going to have the most vivid and matching impact on your desire.

What you visualize is totally up to you. It doesn’t have to be material. It can be world peace, an absolutely green planet, healthy children, a restored ozone layer, new developments in autism research. The sky is limitless. It only matters your perception; how you shape this reality that you are creating for yourself. We forget how powerful the mind is and that the very chemicals that are released by our brains through thought and emotion are what causes certain things to happen. This is the reason you hear about the cancer patient whose unwavering faith in God helped their healing manifest. You hear the story of a young boy who is legally blind become an award winning wide receiver. This is the same reason you hear about the Miracle Man, whose bones were shattered in a plane crash, sentenced to life as a vegetable by the doctors, yet walked out of the hospital eight months later.

Visualization is a tool that is being activated through daydreaming or sitting down and writing out goals that you “see” for yourself. Another quite fun and effortless way to use the visualization too is to create a vision or dream board. Anything can be placed on this board from words, pictures of places and people, colorful shapes, houses, money, or virtually anything that makes you bubble over with excitement whenever you look at it. The key is to feel as if those items on your vision board you’re experiencing them now. It doesn’t really help to continue to visualize the future as “the future.” Literally see your future-self in the “now.” This is a key step to making the tool of visualization successfully work for you.

Proactively use your mind to put the pieces together that you want to see happen in your lifetime. Even if it doesn’t happen while you’re physically alive, by virtue of the Law of Attraction, it will happen. The late civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech reminds us of this.

Be sure to read about the next tool: Affirmations.

Emergency Manifesting: Using Law of Attraction in a Pinch

Rent’s due but the bank account is empty. Your boss just gave your third written warning for a job you can’t afford to lose. Your beloved sweetie eloped with your best friend. The doctor confirmed the diagnosis you feared most.

Sooner or later it seems like life gets the best of us. What to do when all seems lost?

If you know how law of attraction works, you know that you get what you vibrate. Your vibration is based on your thoughts, since thoughts drive feelings and feelings are what comprises your vibration.

So if it feels like the stuff has hit the fan and you need to do some emergency manifesting, here are three simple steps to remember:

1) What do I want?

2) What does that feel like?

3) What feels good to do next?

When we’re caught in the loop of things gone wrong it’s all too easy to forget about our vibration and lose sight of our desired end result. Rather, our attention is quite naturally focused on exactly what we don’t want, like a “deer in the headlights” effect.

Remember you are in charge of what plays out next. You can effect change. I repeat: you can effect change! And that is NOT best done by leaping into action with the same vibration that escorted you into the problem.

Instead, first shift your energy (i.e. vibration), and then take action that feels good. (Which may not be at all what you would have guessed. Be open.)

Let’s look at the three steps for emergency manifesting in more detail:

What do I want

When things go wrong, it’s easy to get stuck looking at what you don’t want. So although this seems like a “no brainer” of a first step, it’s a crucial one. Take your attention off what you don’t want. Redirect your focus away from “reality,” or what you fear might become reality. Put the spotlight of your mind on the results you desire; on the outcome you’d love to see unfold. On what you want. Simple, and important.

What does that feel like?

With the results that you want firmly in mind, now pay attention to what that feels like. What does it feel like to know your healing is on its way? What does it feel like to know you’re appreciated and valued at work; that your sweetie truly loves you? What does it feel like to know all is well?

Hang out here. Spend time with this vibration! Because it is exactly this vibration that allows “reality” to turn the corner and start going your way. This is where miracles can enter your life; when you vibrate in a way that allows them in. So FEEL what it feels like to have what you want.

What feels good to do next?

Now that you’re vibrating what you want, you have access to information that can help. From this place (of feeling what it feels like to have what you want), ask yourself the question: “What feels good to do next?”

Trust your inner guidance for that answer, friend. Don’t let your analytical mind hijack you to an automatic response that isn’t authentically yours. No one can tell you this action step better than you. The world is full of advice, but none of it will serve you if it’s not in alignment with what feels good to you.

As long as we’re stuck in the vibration of the problem, we are not allowing the solution to unfold. Shift your energy and get creative by listening to your inner knowing about what will serve you best. The Universe is conspiring on your behalf, and the system is set up for your success. When you focus your mind with intention and align your energy with what you want, you are an unstoppable power!
