I think it is critical that people “love themselves as thy neighbor” especially in today’s world. It needs to start with people’s belief systems. If they have a belief system that in some way tells them that they do not “deserve” love then this needs to be changed. I’ve been reading this book Free Mind Free Body by D.R. Boisse and he talks about how we are each in our own reality bubbles experiencing reality from our own perceptions. That our beliefs truly create our life. I agree that it’s very difficult, perhaps even impossible, to love others if you don’t love yourself. Having a low self-esteem can doom you into never finding your soul-mate.

For example, shy people may see someone that they are very attracted to, but never approach the person due to fear of rejection. The fear of rejection really stems from low self-esteem, stemming from lack of self-love.
