I like this poem and the idea that God can be someone personal - someone that each of us can experience in a unique way, because we are all unique. Enven Christians, how devout they are, cannot all experience God in precisely the same way. We are all too individual, with our own histrories and stories - and experiences with God. So, I agree with the poem, when it says, "Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be," It does not reject God, it simply allows us to experence Him on a presonal level.

It is so sad that some christians are always threatened about anything that is not written in the bible. We will be so much richer for it if we can only open ourselves to the idea that wisdom and beauty is everywhere around us, not just in the things that we are attached to.

I grew up in a strict Christian home, and it is because of this snobish behaviour of organised Christianity that I have left the Church and go about serving God on my own, and in my own unique way. No w I am free to listen to Christians, find the beauty of Eastern Philosophies and appreciate the dedication of Islam. I can even feel the passion and have compassion with some of the old earth religions.

Peace unto you all

Hi,
Liam from tipperary here. GOD is the one we all seek in our hearts. The is that He is always their in our hearts. The one that was always there in the first place, but we were too afraid, and wound up in FEAR (I really love the above acronym and believe it to hit the nail on the head) to follow his message for us. That beautiful personal individual message of love that he has for each one of us. The desiderata is truely a good message to LISTEN to, but dont be disappointed if you fall short of the mark that is set out in the desiderata. Or even fall short of the mark set out by GOD and Jesus.
The point of life is the journey. No matter how high up in the career race you get, your still running to keep everyone including yourself happy. No matter what level, life is a tough game to play and takes all you got.

The fact that you try, that you sacrifice your talents to the enhancement of your life gives GOD and those around you in your life such joy. True happiness.

Some one previously mentioned of the perfection in your heart, (Joann nearly sure it was you!!). Perfection does not exist. The human heart will be plagued by the tap tapping of the devil and all his empty promises to the last day of life. THe trick is not to answer the door when he calls. but even if you let him through a window GOD is so quick to forgiven and hopes nothing but better things for you. We are so lucky to have such a loving Father. such a loving message . GOD Bless!!!

I agree with Joe 24th Feb 2008 @ 403am
That God is who we should be Seeking.
But you interpretation is very good of the poem
God Bless you.
If you just want to get your heart tickled this is a great Poem
But if you want to know the Truth read the Holy Bible it is the best instruction manual for life you will ever read. xxx

While there is truth in this poem it misses completely, as does the interpretation, the most important thing mentioned - GOD.
Is he whatever you concieve HIM to be or has HE told us what we should concieve HIM to be! While the poem can stir emotions, it is truth that we should live by. Seek and you will find. Do not trust your emotions as they change constantly and can lead you astray. The only true comforter is GOD. As a Christian GOD, not man, tells me/us who GOD is. Do not be lead astray by what tickles your ear. JESUS says HE is the way, truth and life no one comes to the FATHER but by HIM. Is that the truth? Seek and you shall find. I know it is work to seek but nothing else in life has the implications of right belief as does right belief in GOD! GOD Bless.

Hey,
your interpretation of Desiderata with the original should be included in the national education, it would (will?) help great many kids & teenagers to become thier whole, fullfilled adult self.

Keep up the good work

This site is good! It talks about affirmations in many ways. I also like the poetic approach.

I had come across a copy of it and wanted to search its origin... but what I have found here in your personal interpretation was more than I expected! Thanks! I also am learning alot from your other forums and want you to know you've made a positive impact on my life by creating this site.
